Apple iphone

There has been much talk about the new iphone. Video, internet, email, mp3 and plenty more - all in one. It looks cool in the commercials, but it is even better in person. I can vouch for this because, I had the chance to visit the Apple store this weekend and played with one for about two minutes. That was all I needed to decide that I want one. No, I won't pay $500 for one, but I will most likely buy one in the future. If you recall the first generation ipods - they didn't have the hype the iphone has, but almost everyone has an ipod now, just about 6 years later. I didn't have a chance to check everything out that the iphone has to offer, but the one thing I did like was browsing the internet. I have used my wife's pda before, but the internet hardly ever works and when it does - it sucks. I checked out thebearhug.com on the iphone and it was like a perfect, minature version of the actual site. I can't wait buy one once all the bugs are worked out. Soon enough everyone will have one. Check it out.

Hipster who knows nothing about art!

I find it amusing and it angers me when someone wants design work for free or little to no money. I can understand when a friend or family member wants something small done, like an invitation or calendar. It's when a person posts a message on a website looking for someone to design their website or brochure, for nothing. Why in god's name would I want to do a website for someone I don't know, for free? Who would ever have the nerve to ask someone to do this for them?

It just so happens, I recently came across a person like this. I saw a posting on craigslist recently and it made me angry enough to give a reply to this person. The listing is below.

Graphic Designer to design my website

Hi i'm a photographer and i was looking for someone to design a website for me where i can upload images each week. It will be fairly big. A contact page, biography, resume page, image page with 5-6 image pages. I'm looking for something sophistocated and fairly simple but also creative. I'm not sure what flash is but i don't think i would need that maybe a slideshow for each image page. I'm still a student so i'm looking for someone starting out or another student who is not too expensive. Please e-mail me back how much you would charge, a website or examples of your work, and how long it would take.
Thanks,
Lauren

It pissed me off that someone who is a photographer and student can't muster up the strength and time to learn how to do it on their own. So, I had to send a reply to tell this person. My email chain is below.

ME:
Are you kidding? Learn to do it or don't ask for help. It's sad to think

you're an artist, but can't learn to do it for yourself.

HER:
I guess you think graphic designers are considered

artists. Not so much. Yes, i could easily make a
amateur website (which i have done by the way)...if i
wanted to do graphic design, thats what i would do.
Who the hell do you think you are anyway. I'm sure
your just some stupid hipster that knows nothing about
art.

ME:
Any real graphic designer has an art background. It's just funny that you want
someone to do for you, for free.

I'm sure there will be more to come because, I can tell she is a feisty one and won't back down.

Why we must change

We will always have the desire for a little change in our lives. It's what challenges us. Motivates us. Excites us, as well as, help us grow. Without change, everything would be safe. No one would explore or invent. Dare to create or be different.

There are stages in our lives when the thought of change is presented. May it be accidental or intentional, a challenge is brought upon us. Do we accept this change, move on and grow. Or do we sulk and let the change take over our lives? Change can be as small as trying new food–like sushi. Singing karaoke in front of a crowd for the first time. Or pursuing a new career with greater possibilities.

Change is motivational due to the part that there is a challenge presented. We need to decide—what will I do? Will we remain sitting, as our friends get up and sign that same song or will I take that plunge that will give me the greatest rush I have felt in weeks? We are forced to make decisions that will affect our lives. We all have options and when we decide to make that change, we are motivated to pursue new goals and ideas.

Some people are comfortable right where they are, but for me, I need that excitement. I want to try as much as I can, so I can be my own judge of what something is like. I don't need someone telling me that everything is fine and dandy just as it is. It is, I know it is. I want to see what is beyond that fine and dandy level. Maybe it's something greater than what I had or maybe it's worse off than what I had before. At least I know I tried. That's good enough for me.

Do you need a hug?
